Couples Counseling

Relationships are hard and never in a fixed state but the effort is worth the work.

The work of confronting difficult or complex topics can be much easier when guided by a therapist who can set boundaries, offer new perspectives, and encourage couples to think differently about an individual or issue. The safety and confidentiality of the therapeutic space can allow couples to vent their most difficult feelings without entering destructive arguments without closure.

Over time, through a therapist’s intervention, a couple can learn to communicate more effectively, listen more empathetically, and utilize better coping mechanisms to deal with challenging dynamics.

Build A Stronger Relationship

All relationships are strongest and healthiest when based on honesty, reciprocity, and respect. While a couple might have a lot of love, it may lack the tools its members need to understand and care for one another. Fear of hurt feelings and reluctance to break silence around conflict and trauma can prevent families from communicating honestly about their feelings and reaching resolution.

Just like individual people, couples grow and evolve.

Our goal in working with couples is to help clients make lasting positive change, increase closeness and improve communication skills. Typically your therapist will see you both together for a consultation and then see each of you separately for a session before we all come back together for the following sessions.

What It's Like To Get Started

Our intake coordinator Libbi will help you schedule your appointment and get you set up with our intake paperwork.

Your therapist will then reach out to you to introduce themselves, answer any questions you may have and send you information
about your upcoming appointment.

We see couples virtually and/or in person at our downtown Chicago office. Sessions are typically 60 or 90 minutes long.

As Therapy Continues

The needs and goals of each relationship and the individuals within that relationship help determine the direction and approach we will take together. We meet couples where they are to address the issues and life stressors that are getting in their way.

We provide a safe space for compassionate listening and co-collaboration of meaning. Together we will uncover your strengths and resilience and work to overcome barriers and create different patterns that will help you achieve your goals.
