Hi, my name is James, and my pronouns are he/him/his. In a world filled with injustices and uncertainty, it is probably safe to say that many of us are struggling. I know what it’s like to be in a place where it feels as if we need help, but there is nobody to turn to that understands the unique types of problems we want to talk about. As a kink-aware therapist and one that is experienced in the world of polyamory and consensual non-monogamy, I hope to bridge gaps by eliminating stigmas for those that live differently, and by supporting those that feel left out, or misunderstood. I also care deeply about social justice, work hard to dismantle oppression and marginalization where possible, and am a vocal LGBTQ+ and feminist ally that wants to see change.
I work with clients of a wide age group, ranging from teens to elders, and provide both individual and couples therapy. Although my experience is diverse, I specialize in helping people work through challenges with ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, Low self-esteem, Parenting, Life-transitions, Self-Identity, Barriers to Life Goals, and Relationship Conflicts. I work with all populations, and provide affirmative therapy to LGBTQ+, kink, sex-positive, and polyamorous communities.
As someone that became a therapist later in life, I apply experiences I’ve attained from my own diverse path into my practice, so that I will be more able to help you along your own personal journey. I will work with you collaboratively, in order to uncover any barriers you may have that are preventing you from living a more authentic self.
I utilize techniques from a variety of therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Affirmative Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and a variety of strengths-based approaches that may be most appropriate for the challenges that a client may be facing. I also work with couples, as a Level 1 Certified Gottman Method Therapist.
It’s not always easy to ask for the support we need. I promise to provide a safe and supportive space, to be a good listener, and to help you take those first steps towards a life that is filled with more happiness, positivity, and fulfillment.
