“I became a therapist to be of service to others! Bringing warmth to someone’s life has always been my goal.”

Why I became a therapist

Hi, my name is Inkera Muwwakkil, and I am a MFT candidate. My journey to becoming a therapist manifested from my own experience of life challenges and navigating my way to healing my wounded pieces. I have always loved experiencing people and their stories with fullness, and in many ways, it has allowed me to see a greater purpose in holding space for others to engage in their mental health! I began my career in higher education, working with young adults embarking on a new life journey during one of the most prevalent times for all of us, the COVID-19 pandemic. During this challenging time, I noticed a lot of my students were dealing with different mental health-related things, ranging from dealing with loss, depression, and anxiety that impacted their well-being and school life. During that time, I was not only in a leadership role but also held responsibilities to mentor and help guide them through an arduous time. I continued to work closely with counseling departments and found other resources to provide for them. That experience impacted me so much that I wanted to explore further how to help people through some of life's significant adjustments. I became a therapist to be of service to others! Bringing warmth to someone’s life has always been my goal. Everyone deserves grace, and allowing people to feel the value that they hold is incredibly important. Being a therapist allows me to hold space for people to give them room to breathe, process their experiences, and be heard and understood. I want to be a resource to my clients through the journey they are embarking on. It is a beautiful experience, and I’m honored to be a part of that.

Who I work with

I enjoy working with couples, families, parents, individuals, and people from all walks of life with a focus on BIPOC and marginalized populations. Through a relational and trauma-informed lens, I assist and support my clients who may be dealing with anxiety, depression, complex trauma, relationship distress, and related issues. I work with people going through many life transitions and looking to take a new approach to growth and change in their lives. I understand this journey can be uniquely difficult for everyone, so cultivating space to deconstruct the stories and hardships are important for creating a different form of change for each client. My expertise will always lie within relationships and how each person has it within themselves with others within community and society. Working with me will always include a culturally informed lens with goals of navigating each intersecting identity we hold. When working with couples and families I focus on the system as a whole and seek out the unique strengths. I am here to help explore and process all the dynamics and complexities relationships bring.

Working With Me

Working with me will create a space of safety and openness. Ensuring each client feels validated and can experience the growth coming from inside and outside the sessions is paramount to me. I hope to create a secure environment that will allow vulnerability at my clients’ pace. Therapy with me will be a collaborative experience where we will explore and dive into who you are and what you want out of life and our work together. I believe that everything that occurs individually can also be experienced through our relationships. Integrating a sense of wholeness is my approach, and through this lens, I also like to integrate all dimensions of culture and cultivate a space to process and re-narrate our current life stories.
