Why I became a therapist

Hi! My name is Phoebe and I use they/them pronouns. I became a therapist because I believe every person deserves a space where they feel truly understood and heard. As a neurodivergent therapist, I am fascinated by how humans came to be the way they are and am awed by the diversity of human experience. Through my past experiences as an early childhood researcher, I became interested in the question of what makes us uniquely human. I found that much of the answer lies in our ability to connect to one another and the way we process emotions. Connecting to clients through therapy, processing emotions, and supporting them in connecting to others is one of the most profound human experiences one can have! Through therapy, I aim to empower others to find their voices, overcome trauma, and better understand themselves. I accompany clients as they create a life that is values-driven and balanced.

Who I work with

I work with a range of individuals including adults, teens, and children. I have worked with clients with a broad range of challenges including depression, anxiety, trauma, family conflict, low self-esteem, and gender dysphoria. I am passionate about working with the LGBTQIA+ community, folks with diagnosed or self-identified Autism/ADHD, and those navigating pregnancy and postpartum. Therapy with me is also an affirming space for those in the kink and poly communities. I enjoy working with individuals who wish to deepen their understanding of their identity, are undergoing a life transition, or who want to understand how their past experiences inform their current reality.

Working With Me

I work from a relational and trauma-informed perspective to collaborate with individuals in building a life aligned with their goals. In therapy, I like to use humor, curiosity, and transparency to create a safe environment for clients to explore their emotions without judgment. I understand that social inequality impacts mental health and well-being and I want to explore the relationship between identity and broader societal systems that affect our everyday lives. I may also talk about mindfulness, human development, or the brain/body connection in my sessions. I practice from a psychodynamic stance and occasionally draw from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as needed. Some sessions may feel playful and energizing and others may feel heavy and emotionally rich. No matter the case, I aim to create a warm and affirming space where clients can show up as their most authentic selves.

My Qualifications and trainings

  • I received my master’s degree in social work from The University of Chicago where I graduated with a certificate in Trauma Informed Care
  • I have experience working with individuals on the Autism Spectrum and with ADHD
  • I received my undergraduate degree in psychology from Duke University where I researched early childhood development.
  • I have a Professional Educator License as a school social worker and have experience with children and teens from ages 6-18
